Rest and Recovery After Exercise – Improve Sports Performance
After Exercise Rest – Why Rest Days Improve Sports Performance
Most athletes know that getting enough rest after exercise is essential to high-level performance, but many still over train and feel guilty when they take a day off. The body repairs and strengthens itself in the time between workouts, and continuous training can actually weaken the strongest athletes.
Rest days are critical to sports performance for a variety of reasons. Some are physiological and some are psychological. Rest is physically necessary so that the muscles can repair, rebuild and strengthen. For recreational athletes, building in rest days can help maintain a better balance between home, work and fitness goals.
In the worst-case scenario, too few rest and recovery days can lead to overtraining syndrome – a difficult condition to recover from. To continue reading click here.

Holy crap, Rebecca! That is seriously incredible! It was super fun to watch you in action on Saturday. I overheard a conversation of some people talking about you at sectionals. It went something like this, “That girl right there has an INFANT! That is so freaking cool. She is amazing.” And they didn’t even know you and how wonderful you really are!!! Great job. 7th place out of 43 is not too shabby at all.
Ok so first off, I have to tell you all about Hillari and how well she did judging. Every athlete that she judged for had so much intensity and so much heart becuase Hillari has so much heart. At one point I looked over and she was doing half burpees with her athlete. Those of you who get the chance to compete will understand when you get a judge that is so encouraging and motivational. Way to go Hill.
Brandon you as well. SO impressed with the judging and its a hard job to do; exhuasting to say the least. Thanks so much for volunteering your time and bringing your RV for us to chill in and laugh. Charly, Nick and I are forever grateful.
It was an amazing weekend! I never imagined that I would make it as far as I did. Honestly I would have been just fine with 15th place, but Nick my phenominal coach kept me going. He is such a pro and his brain works in mysterious ways. Thanks for all the well wishes, support, and love because with out it this body of mine would have given up a long time ago but because of all you (awesome CF family) my heart and mind kept going. I am continually amazed at how the pulse of the crowd pushes you forward and beyond and makes you turn off all doubt in your mind to be able to move on knowing that the finish line is near. Brandee, Jenn, Alex, Maddie, 97, Kelsea, Julie, Jerry, Chace, Josh, Brandon, and everyone who was there rooting for me THANK YOU!!!!!!! I am off to take an ice bath now! See you at the box. Lots of fun stories to tell.
Thanks for the article about recovery. You know what I will be doing this week.
Rebecca..
Great job this weekend.. My husband Craig volunteered on Sunday and mentioned how well you did!! Way to go and way to represent all of us moms out there. You rock!
Looking forward to following you through Regionals.
We are so pumped for and are definitly going to try and come watch you compete at regionals!!! You are the bee’s knees when it comes to crossfit. We are sad we couldnt make it, as matt pointed out Lauren has been beating me so I had to leave town again. Plus it is getting harder to deal with since you guys have made her so much stronger….ouch… it hurts just thinking about it
Hill,
The winning time was just over 8 minutes. Holy COW!! I have a long way to go…
Rebecca, great job! Awesome performance! Thanks for representing CFD.
Who is excited for the WOD today? Looks fun.
Nice job this weekend Rebecca and Hill!
